Remedy: Remove the setuid bit or create a secure wrapper. 2. lp Command ( ) Issue: The associated LPD daemon ( ) is a setuid program, which can be exploited to steal user identities via print jobs, potentially leading to privilege escalation. Remedy: Replace SGI’s printing system with LPRng. 3. root’s crontab Issue: Contains default dangerous tasks, such as running (file system reorganization) weekly, which may be exploited for path traversal attacks. Remedy: Modify the crontab to ensure operations use secure paths. 4. /usr/tmp/.syserr.data Issue: System error messages are written to this file, which could be exploited to overwrite SUID programs and gain root access.
